Meet Dr. Michaela Ambrosius

NY 005493-1 Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

NJ 37PC00737900 Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

About Me

I am a licensed mental health counselor and trauma therapist with over 15 years of clinical experience working with adults and adolescents who are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions.

My work focuses on helping individuals understand the patterns that keep them feeling stuck, process the impact of past experiences, and develop more stable and meaningful ways of living.

Education & Clinical Background

I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Montclair State University, where I served as adjunct faculty. My academic and clinical work focuses on how people recover from trauma, rebuild a sense of self, and create more grounded and meaningful lives.

Over time, my clinical focus has shifted toward trauma therapy, particularly supporting individuals experiencing complex trauma and PTSD, as well as those struggling with long-standing emotional and relational patterns.

My Approach

In my clinical work, I integrate evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Logotherapy. These methods allow us to work with both the emotional and physiological impact of trauma, while also exploring deeper patterns related to identity, relationships, and meaning.

The focus of therapy is not only to understand what has happened, but to help you respond to it in new ways, so that emotional experiences feel more manageable, and life begins to feel more flexible and intentional.

My Perspective

I believe that many emotional struggles are meaningful responses to difficult experiences, and that healing involves both understanding these patterns and developing new ways of relating to them with greater clarity and choice.

Languages & Background

Having lived and worked across several countries, I bring a multicultural perspective to my work and offer therapy in English, German, Italian, and Spanish.

My Goal

My goal is to provide a grounded, collaborative, and structured therapeutic space where clients can reduce distress, increase emotional resilience, and move toward a more connected and meaningful life.
